We’re thrilled to welcome Stella Harry Lee (@stellaaharrylee), a material and product designer, to SOHN for a hands-on workshop exploring algae as a biodegradable, bio-based material. Motivated by the growing challenges of consumerism in the context of the climate crisis, Stella’s recent work centers on materials such as seaweed, algae yarn, mycelium, and fish skin. She aims to bridge the gap between scientific research and consumer product design, making cutting-edge material innovations more accessible and culturally relevant.

Join forager Cindy (@cindydoedee) and Aruna Lee, Founder and Fermentress of Volcano Kimchi for a talk and wild foraged dinner. Cindy and Aruna have been experimenting with foraged ingredients, fermenting and pickling wild greens to highlight the Bay Area's seasonal abundance. They will discuss their foraging and fermenting practices and walk you through their processes for creating this meal. You'll be served enough rice, ferments, and pickles for a healthy & nourishing dinner. Come listen, eat, and mingle!

SŌHN x sangsang: Mugunghwa Trinket Tray Workshop

We're thrilled to welcome back Joey Choi of sangsang for a beginner-friendly polymer clay workshop! In this class, you’ll craft an elegant trinket tray inspired by mugunghwa—Korea’s national flower. Joey will teach foundational techniques like sculpting, painting, and glazing polymer clay, step-by-step. We’ll be working with translucent polymer clay, which leaves a porcelain-like finish once fired and glazed. All materials will be provided, and you’ll leave with a one-of-a-kind trinket tray that couples functionality with symbolic design.

SŌHN x sangsang: Beginner's Crochet Workshop

Learn the foundations of crochet at this beginner’s workshop, co-led by sangsang’s Joey Choi and Sujin Jeong! You'll be able to design and complete your first crochet project making a Dancheong Square and receive hands-on instruction to guide you along the way. Dancheong is a traditional Korean painting style that pays reverence to the Five Elements—wood, fire, earth, metal, and water—and can be seen adorning many palaces and historical buildings in South Korea. All materials will be provided, including a take-home kit. We’re excited for you to come crochet with us and bring home with you a piece of this unique art experience!

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll make 포기 김치 (pogi, whole-leaf Napa kimchi) and a bright, tangy persimmon kimchi. Taste through Volcano Kimchi favorites while you learn step-by-step: salting, seasoning, fermentation basics, a bit of history, and why fermented foods love your gut. You’ll take home a jar you made to ferment at home.
