We’re thrilled to welcome back KK Kim, a San Francisco-based Minhwa artist, to lead this intimate art workshop at SŌHN. KK’s work has been shown in Jeju, South Korea and at local art fairs including Maum Market, Art Walk SF, and Filoli Art Walk. Join Youngmin Lee, a Korean textile artist based in the San Francisco Bay Area, for an in-depth, hands-on workshop exploring bojagi, the traditional Korean art of textile wrapping. Rooted in both function and aesthetics, bojagi has been used for centuries to wrap, cover, and carry objects, evolving into a refined art form defined by its geometry, translucency, and careful hand-stitching.Youngmin brings a deep and contemporary perspective to this practice. With a BA in Clothing and Textiles and an MFA in Fashion Design, she has taught and demonstrated Korean textile techniques at leading institutions including the Asian Art Museum, LACMA, the de Young, and QuiltCon. Her work is held in museum collections in the U.S. and internationally, and her recent book, Bojagi: The Art of Korean Textiles (2024), reflects her ongoing exploration of this tradition.In this workshop, you’ll create a lotus leaf–shaped sangbo (covering bojagi). You’ll learn foundational techniques including homjil stitching and kkojipgi seam construction, building structure and line as you work. As you stitch, the piece comes together through raised seams, and you’ll also learn how to make a yeonbong (lotus bud knot) to finish the piece.​You’ll experience:
